We stimulated the frontal cortex of fifty rabbits and observed the effect of such stimulation on the electrical activity of pain sensitive neu - rons of the mesencephalic reticular formation , and the effect on acupuncture . The results are as follows : Among the 227 pain sensitive neurons observed , there were 145 pain excitatory neurons . When we stimulated the frontal cortex , such pain excitatory neurons showed an increased number of unit electrical dis - charges .
