1. 赞美;恭维(话)
    A compliment is a polite remark that you say to someone to show that you like their appearance, appreciate their qualities, or approve of what they have done.

    e.g. You can do no harm by paying a woman compliments...
           对女人说些恭维话没有坏处。
    e.g. 'Well done, Cassandra,' Crook said. She blushed, but accepted the compliment with good grace.
           “干得好，卡桑德拉。”克鲁克说。她脸一下子红了，但还是很有风度地接受了恭维。

2. 赞美;恭维
    If you compliment someone, you pay them a compliment.

    e.g. They complimented me on the way I looked each time they saw me...
           每次见到我，他们都称赞我的外貌。
    e.g. Firstly I compliment you on most of your excellent Spring issue of 'Triangle'.
           首先，让我来夸几句，你们《三角迷踪》春季号的大部分内容都非常精彩。

3. 赞美;赞赏
    If you consider something that a person says or does as a compliment, it convinces you of your own good qualities, or that the person appreciates you.

    e.g. We consider it a compliment to be called 'conservative'...
           我们认为被称作“保守分子”是对我们的一种赞赏。
    e.g. It's obvious he's worried about us and I'm taking it as a compliment.
           显然他担心我们，我把这当做一种赞美。

4. 致谢;祝贺;致意
    You can refer to your compliments when you want to express thanks, good wishes, or respect to someone in a formal way.

    e.g. My compliments to the chef...
           请向厨师代为致意！
    e.g. Give my compliments to your lovely wife when you write home.
           写信回家的时候，代我问候你可爱的妻子。

5. 回报;回敬
    If you say that someone returns the compliment, you mean that they do the same thing to someone else as that person has done to them.

    e.g. The actors have entertained us so splendidly during this weekend, I think it's time we returned the compliment.
           这周末演员们给我们带来了精彩的演出，我觉得我们该回请他们了。

6. (尤指赠送礼物或给予帮助时)…敬赠，请接受…的敬意
    If you say that you are giving someone something with your compliments, you are saying in a polite and fairly formal way that you are giving it to them, especially as a gift or a favour.

    e.g. Please give this to your boss with my compliments...
           请把这个给你的老板，算是我的一点心意。
    e.g. On my bedside table awaited, with the compliments of the management, an appetizing breakfast.
           一份让人垂涎的早餐摆在我的床头桌上，那是管理人员的一点小意思。
