1. 饵；诱饵
    Bait is food which you put on a hook or in a trap in order to catch fish or animals.

2. 装饵于；给（鱼钩或陷阱等）上诱饵
    If you bait a hook or trap, you put bait on it or in it.

    e.g. He baited his hook with pie...
           他在鱼钩上装了点馅饼作钓饵。
    e.g. The boys dug pits and baited them so that they could spear their prey.
           男孩们挖了坑，埋了饵，这样他们就可以刺杀猎物了。

3. 诱惑物；引诱物
    To use something as bait means to use it to trick or persuade someone to do something.

    e.g. Service stations use petrol as a bait to lure motorists into the restaurants and other facilities...
           加油站以汽油为诱饵，吸引开车的人用餐以及使用其他设施。
    e.g. Television programmes are essentially bait to attract an audience for advertisements.
           从根本上说，电视节目就是吸引观众看广告的诱饵。

4. 使上当发火；故意逗…生气
    If you bait someone, you deliberately try to make them angry by teasing them.

    e.g. He delighted in baiting his mother.
           他喜欢逗母亲生气。

5. 中圈套，上当，中计（亦作rise to the bait,主要用于英国英语中）
    If you take the bait, you react to something that someone has said or done exactly as they intended you to do. The expression rise to the bait is also used, mainly in British English.

    e.g. When she attempts to make you feel guilty, don't take the bait...
           如果她试图让你觉得内疚，不要上当。
    e.g. Their behaviour may seem insulting, but it's important not to rise to the bait and get cross.
           他们的行为看起来可能很无礼，但千万不要上当生气。
